Title: Populating Places Shopping Bag Project

Date: 2004

Dimensions: 240 x 310 x 110mm

Location: Grange Park District Centre, Northamptonshire

Description: To build awareness and anticipation of the new shops and services opening at this new residential settlement, different groups from the Grange Park community have been encouraged to design new logo symbols or icons representing each tenant. The collaged designs consider both literal and more lateral interpretations of each facility helping to build a unique identity for Grange Park. A final selection is being printed onto a shopping bag sponsored by the tenants, to be given out to each resident of Grange Park as part of the launch of the Centre.

Photographer: The Artist

Project Background: This initiative is part of a wider programme of Public Art at Grange Park. The project has developed a number of artistic opportunities with the aim of building a unique identity and atmosphere, encouraging the evolving community to engage with, and take care and ownership of, their new environment.

Project Background: The concepts for the District Centre also support this vision through the integration of a sculptural artwork into the environment (Populating Places Reed Forms) and other offshoot initiatives that have also contributed to the overall design quality of the public spaces.
