Artists Statement

I aim with my work to form some connection between People and Place. Often I work to commission, creating work with a particular place in mind. Sometimes the development of the work involves the people from that place to try to create work that has a link with its context both visually and ideologically.

I work mainly with fabrics and metals drawing on inspiration from a variety of sources to create sculptural work. I enjoy exploring the possibilities for manipulating form and playing with light, mixing hand-made with machine-made. Often my work is created in series.

Another key element of my work is artistic input to public and private development schemes. Through these projects I am able to work with a range of materials creating a meaningful response to the practical need for street furniture and hard and soft landscaping, but also to the need for some connection between people and their place.

For experimentation and enjoyment I am developing a new collection of work which attempts to communicate something of My Place. It is an abstract response to the energy of agricultural and technological growth surrounding me here in the East of England, on the edge of The Fens.
